"Snow Geese Over the Corn Field at Middle Creek
In late February and early March each year, thousands of Snow Geese, Chen caerulescens, gather at the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area in Pennsylvania preparing for the long flight to their nesting grounds on the Arctic tundra in Northern part of Canada. Often great clouds rise simultaneously into the air as they sense danger like a Bald Eagle circling overhead. Snow Geese spend winters in fields and marshes from the mid-Atlantic coast of the US south to Mexico and near the San Francisco Bay, the Gulf of California and the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge. |
